When you think of Grand Theft Auto some of the first things that come to mind are buying a huge house, buying an expensive car, and making so much money that you could never in a million years spend it all. When you think of the American Dream you also think about a fancy house, expensive car, and infinite amounts of money. In Rockstar Games’ blockbuster Grand Theft Auto V Michael DeSanta aka Michael Townley strives for his version of the American Dream through his life of crime. Michael was born in 1968 as Michael Townley. Early on in his childhood, he turned to crime. In the 1990’s he creates a family with his wife and two kids. In the early 2000’s he is still living his life of thrill and crime. In 2004 Michael is pulling a bank job with Lester and Trevor and he is approached by Dave Norton, an FBI agent who claims to know all about the job that Michael is about to do. Norton strikes a deal with Michael where he gives up his crew and in return, Norton would take care of him. Michael obliges because of his shifting views on crime and because he has responsibilities like taking care of his family now. His crew goes down and Michael finds him, and his family relocated to Rockford Hills, Los Santos in a swanky new house with a lump sum of money. He gets a clean slate. A fresh start to pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Well, it turns out Michaels version of the American Dream is participating in illegal activities and committing crimes to make money. So, he goes back to do the same thing he did before his FBI protection.
